A cold desert of monasteries and endless sky

Spiti Valley is a high-altitude cold desert cut off from the rest of Himachal for much of the year. Its villages — Kaza, Kibber, Langza, Komic — sit among some of the highest motorable roads in the world, with monasteries that predate most Himalayan hill towns by centuries.
